We’re using unofficial newer RPMs for our stuff; CentOS itself is still using the old RHEL6 versions.
I think it would make sense to propose an “OCaml software collection”[1] which would contain at least a newer compiler and opam, which could be installed alongside the old version. They’ve already done this for python I notice.
